About KiHS

Keewaytinook Internet High School (KiHS) provides innovative, community-based secondary education for Indigenous students across remote First Nations in Northern Ontario. Through a blended learning model, KiHS enables students to remain in their home communities while accessing a broad range of high school courses supported by local mentorship and online instruction.

The Role

The KiHS Classroom Teacher / Mentor serves as the in-community classroom educator supporting Indigenous students in remote First Nations, many of which are fly-in only. Teachers combine face-to-face mentorship with online instruction, helping students navigate and succeed in their high school courses while participating in cultural and land-based activities. Multiple full-time positions are available across different communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the classroom teacher in a partner First Nations northern community
  • Mentor students enrolled in online high school courses across subject areas
  • Deliver online instruction and provide academic support
  • Engage students through blended learning combining in-person mentorship and online education
  • Participate in cultural, land-based, and community activities with students

Requirements

  • Member of, or eligible for membership in, the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Qualified for intermediate and/or senior divisions
  • Strong technological skills and familiarity with educational software
  • Ability to work in remote First Nations communities, including fly-in locations
